In June 2026, Oslo welcomed Europe’s leading employment lawyers for the next annual conference of the European Employment Lawyers Association (EELA). The event offered an excellent opportunity to discuss some of the most pressing issues in employment law – and to reconnect with colleagues and friends from across the continent.

The conference opened with a keynote by General Eirik Kristoffersen, Chief of Defence of Norway. While a military keynote may have seemed unusual at first, the topic could not have been more timely: the importance of creative adaptation in a rapidly changing environment.

The programme covered a wide range of highly relevant topics, including the Nordic model of labour regulation, the EU Pay Transparency Directive, the use of artificial intelligence, the interplay between corporate matrix structures and local employment rules, and many more.

Zoltan Csernus, as a member of EELA’s Executive Committee, contributed to the organisation of the session exploring the intersection of law and ethics. The panel featured insights from Adam Skwierawski, Tarja Jussila and Peter Hopkins, moderated by Francisco Conde Viñuelas.

Next year, EELA will hold its annual conference in Malta – followed by Budapest in 2028.
